The festival put on jointly by a leading Himalayan trekking company and Indian Tourism Sydney was held to celebrate the mountains and people of the Himalaya. The festival also coincides with the anniversary of the first climbing of the world's highest peak Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953.
